On January 21 and 22, 2023, the annual meeting of the Spoonbill Working Group was held in Gaast.
The color ring combinations for 2023 have been made.
The Spoonbill Working Group has become a Foundation, the Association has been dissolved.
The finances are sound.
Bird flu was a major concern in 2022. In connection with this, fewer chicks were ringed in 2022 than in 2021. The Working Group had to deal with safety measures and at a number of locations no catches were made due to an outbreak of bird flu.
The Spoonbill Working Group was represented at the European Spoonbill Congress (ESIEG) in Croatia.
There have been 2 meetings with TenneT to discuss taking the right measures against collisions with high-voltage lines and laying an electricity cable through the mudflats at Schiermonnikoog.
Some things worth knowing from 2022:
Slightly fewer readings were made than in 2021, but still about 13,000 in Europe and Africa. Slightly fewer different spoonbills were seen than in 2021.
